Traveling solo with a 7 month old

Baby Ace and I needed to travel for family business during the pandemic. As a pandemic believer we haven’t even gone to the grocery store so I really wanted to make sure we were prepared. I’ll write this in a few parts because I learned a lot researching before we left AND just by trial and error when we were going.

Baby Ace eats purees now and he’s already grown out of his infant seat/ travel system. Logistically this presented some challenges. It would have been sooo much easier if he could fit in his baby carrier and I could just carry it on the plane.

Here’s what we brought on the plane:

– diaper bag backpack

– duffle bag with boppy, his sexual blankie, favorite toys, and standard Tula baby wearer. Oh! And our jackets because we were going somewhere COLD. This all fit under the stroller and under the seat in the plane

– Baby Jogger City Tour Lux stroller. Honestly I cannot say enough nice things about this stroller. I bought it used on FB marketplace. It can be rear or forward facing and folds up into a backpack. I specifically wanted something that had a single handle so I could push with one hand if needed and something sturdy enough to handle cobblestones which eliminated umbrella strollers from our search. This thing is AMAZING. It’s the 2nd stroller for baby Ace and I love it so much

– Cosco Mighty Fit 65 DX car seat. We needed a car seat that would fit on the plane and that I could easily carry. Our Britax Boulevard Clicktight which I absolutely love and feel really safe with him in is just too heavy and honestly too wide and bulky to get on the plane. I read a TON of reviews and it seemed like the COSCO Scenera Next was the most recommended travel car seat but I did see one review that suggested the Mighty Fit DX instead because of the headrest and it was more comfortable for little ones. This seat weighed 10 lbs so I could easily carry it myself and install it while holding Baby Ace. I bought a $10 car seat bag with backpack straps from Amazon and strapped it to the back of the stroller.

Luggage tags: I bought a set of matching luggage tags for the stroller, car seat, diaper bag, and duffle – everything was attached to the stroller and we didn’t lose anything but just in case.

– Purse diaper bag: this attaches to the handlebars of the stroller and when we were preparing to board the plane I put it in the duffle bag and folded the stroller into its backpack. I put all our travel documents and any emergency diapers, toys, wipes in there. I had Clorox wipes, pacifier wipes, diaper wipes, and hand sanitizer wipes in there. I wiped down every surface we touched!
