Baby Ace went to the NICU within his first 24 hours of life. When I finally got to go down and see him he had tubes and wires everywhere, including one in his head. After we came home he needed to be upright the majority of the time and the search for the right carrier commenced. We tried a LOT of carriers. I am going to do this in parts because seriously there were a LOT of tries before we got the RIGHT one. Then we grew out of it and tried a LOT more.
I had bought the MOBY wrap when I was still pregnant. After watching a bunch of YouTube videos on how to put it on and a little practice with a helpful stuffed goat, I had it figured out and was ready for baby Ace. I know people complain about it being difficult to put on but I did not have that problem. I would not want to try and put this on in a parking lot in the rain if I was running errands in the winter because the ends get on the ground while tying. It’s easy to see why this has a following: it’s soft for mama and baby. But baby Ace was born in the summer and it was HOT and we were both SWEATY. So I watched MORE YouTube videos and found a wrap that was supposed to not be hot and sweaty but still have the softness we both liked.
Lightweight My Honey Wrap – Natural and Breathable Baby Carrier Sling for Infants and Babies by SweetBee. On Amazon it has over 2000 reviews. It definitely has lighter fabric but because the fabric had less structure baby Ace was constantly sliding down my waist towards my knees after a few minutes. I was tired of pulling him back up and retying frequently so this carrier was not used for long before I was back to the drawing board.
My trusty YouTube/ Pinterest/ Facebook forums led me toward another revolution: the Mei Tai carriers. I wanted to try them but I had felt a little frustrated so this time I found one on FB Marketplace for $5 and did a quick porch pickup. After a cycle through the wash machine this carrier lasted a shorter time than all the rest. Baby Ace did not like that it wasn’t as soft, he couldn’t get comfortable. For mama, the ties were still frustrating BUT I knew we were on the right track. I liked the idea we just needed the right one.
I found the Infantino Together Pull On Knit on Amazon. It only has 900 reviews but seriously it needs 9000 because it was PERFECT for us. Seriously an underrated carrier and I LOVE it so much. So does baby Ace. It’s super cute, has all the functions of a wrap in the front for baby so you still put them in one leg at a time. PLUS there’s no confusing straps, just pull it over your head like a t-shirt. I liked the support for my back and shoulders since I was still recovering from a c-section. It worked SO WELL for us, I absolutely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a baby carrier for their infant. *note: from the reviews on Amazon this does not work for every body type. I can definitely see it being not the right fit for taller or plus size parents. For reference I am 5’6 and wear a size 12.
It’s not monetized but this is the link if you want to pick one up:

I will also say that I did NOT try any ring slings. I know that people LOVE them but I did not feel super confident about the security keeping the baby in place. I would be interested in trying them for nursing, I think that may work well instead of the boppy if we were on the go. Additionally, the Konny Baby carrier was my next stop if I was still looking for the right carrier, there are a lot of features about it that I liked.
